| About Nature's Nappies
We are a family owned, and operated business. Family, and great customer service are our top priorities. We are local to the Phoenix area, and our family has been in the valley since 1996.
The idea of Nature’s Nappies began when I was struggling to find the right products for my baby boy. As I read through information, it became a wonder to me that disposables are legal. The effects that they pose on our environment, as well the possible side-effects to our little ones are astounding!
After doing the research I knew there was no way that I could in good conscience use disposables. Once I started cloth diapering I realized that all my preconceived notions on cloth diapers where incorrect. First off, I thought it would be difficult. I thought cloth diapers were ugly, and that they only came in the old fashion pre fold design. Of course the only way to secure them would be with pins, right? Horrible pins that I would constantly poke myself with. Not true! Today’s cloth diapers have snaps, or Velcro they are so simple! Today’s cloth diapers are not ugly. There are so many different colors and textures. Dare I say, some are darn right adorable! As far as pre folds go, if you choose to go that route there is a clip to secure them. No more pins! I thought for sure that they would be horribly inconvenient. Not true! I wash my diapers every two to three days. One small load, and the chore is done. Rather than dumping a stinky diaper pail into the trash, I dump it into the wash. Plus the pail smells far less with cloth diapers in it vs disposables on account of the chemicals found in disposables. Another bonus to cloth diapering is that I have yet to deal with any diaper rashes.
When I first saw the prices of cloth diapers I was a little set back. My husband on the other hand simply, FREAKED out! However, being the frugal bean counter that he is- he pulled out his handy calculator and we did the math.
On average a baby will go through
12 diapers a day
12 diapers x 7 days= 84 diapers a week
84 diapers a week x 52 weeks= 4,368 diapers a year
x 2 (Most parents begin the potty training adventure around age 2)= 8,736 diapers from birth to potty will be thrown into the landfills to accommodate 1 baby.
Which mind you will take over 400 years to break down.
If you shop at your local warehouse, you could purchase somewhere around
100 diapers for $30.00
8736/100= 87.36 cases of diapers @ $30 a case= $2620.80 (and that’s not counting wipes)
These numbers are very modest. A number of parents go past the 2 year mark, and not all of us shop at a warehouse. So the reality is, you will go over this.
If you went with a one size such as Baby Beehinds, you would need 36 diapers for a 3 day stash.
36 diapers x $18.99= $683
$50 (4 sm covers)
+ $52 (4 med covers)
+ $54 (4 lg covers)
= $147.00
Wipes 24 x $1.25= $30
$683 (diapers) + $156 (covers) + $30 (wipes)= $869 Total!
That is a savings of over $1751 <---- Now cloth diapers began to make sense to him as well. So the search was on. I found them all over the world! I found fantastic diapers in England, Australia, Canada, Pennsylvania, and California. As far as Phoenix went, there wasn't much to pick from. The local baby store offers pins, rubber pants, and pre folds. So that is the how, and the why Nature’s Nappies came to be.
